On July 10th, the UM Canada team joined UMers from around the world to participate in UM’s eighth annual Impact Day, dedicated to improving the communities in which we live and work. This initiative underscores the agency’s shared commitment to driving meaningful, local change through collaborative global action.

This year, the UM Canada team focused their efforts on addressing two crisis areas currently facing Canadians: food insecurity and the growing demand for blood donations.

The team collected over 3,500 lbs of non-perishable food items for Spadina Fort York Community Centre’s weekly Food Bank, surpassing expectations and more than doubling last year’s total. The program provides food access to individuals in the area experiencing food insecurity. Through their contributions, the agency hopes to support and uplift those in need, ensuring they have access to essential resources and fostering a sense of security.

In addition, UM Canada rallied behind Canadian Blood Services to help close the critical donor gap. Every 60 seconds, someone in Canada needs blood, yet only 4% of eligible Canadians donate. With 29 team members signed up to give blood, UM’s corporate drive contributed to nearly half of the expected daily donations at the downtown CBS’s King/University donation centre.

“With Impact Day, UM Canada is able to step away from our day-to-day and come together to make a real difference where it counts – locally,” UM Canada CEO Ben Seaton said in a statement. “We’re proud to be tackling urgent challenges in our own backyard and creating meaningful change for our community.”
